ISPRS SC - Capacity Building Workshop of Satellite Remote Sensing for Southeast Asian Scientists

ISPRS WG VI/5 is pleased to announce the 2013 Capacity Building Workshop of Satellite Remote Sensing for Southeast Asian Scientists to be held in the Center for Space and Remote Sensing Research (CSRSR), National Central University (NCU), Taiwan, fromNov. 27 to Dec. 05, 2013. This workshop is sponsored by the National Science Council of Taiwan and CSRSR/NCU. It provides a platform for graduate students and young scientists in Southeast Asia to learn knowledge and hand-on experiences on satellite remote sensing and applications. It is also an excellent opportunity for networking and to meet internationally well-recognized scholars in remote sensing and spatial information sciences. Expenses (including round-trip airfares, accommodation, and meals) for accepted participants will be covered by the workshop. GeoLeague Challenge 2014
GeoLeague Challenge
This will mark the fourth year of the GeoLeague Challenge to be held at the ASPRS Annual Conference in March 2014. Teams from across the country compete to solve the challenge put forth by the ASPRS Student Advisory Council (SAC). Please review the challenge and the rules for 2014. The topic for 2014 is Mapping Ecosystem Services Change in Coastal Belize Based on Landsat Data. This year we are working in cooperation with the Natural Capital Project in an effort to assist them with a study for ecosystem services mapping in the coastal zone of Belize.

At the University of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada
The Alberta Terrestrial Imaging Centre and the Department of Geography at the University of Lethbridge are accepting applications for a postdoctoral fellow in lidar remote sensing and geosciences application development.
An exceptional Postdoctoral Fellow position is available for a highly qualified individual that will join and help build a lidar research lab at the University of Lethbridge with Dr. Chris Hopkinson, our newly appointed Campus Alberta Innovates Program Research Chair in Terrestrial Ecosystems Remote Sensing.
This competitive position is funded through the newly established and prestigious Alberta Innovates-Technology Futures (AI-TF) Postdoctoral Fellowship Program and aligns with the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) research theme.
Specific duties and research objectives will depend upon external funding opportunities and the research strengths of the candidate. However, four core research themes are being developed for which the candidate`s support in one or more areas will be critical:
1. Efficient and operational lidar workflows to support applied geoscience research; primarily in the field of flood risk mapping, forest resource assessment, and landscape classification.
2. Effective online or in-house server-based lidar data management (storage, access, processing, analysis) over large areas and in multiple locations.
Theme: Geosciences / lidar remote sensing / natural resources
Duration: Up to two years
Start date: January 1st, 2014 or when the ideal candidate is found
Annual Salary: $70,000

GIS-T Student Paper Contest in Burlington Vermont
- The applicant must be a currently enrolled student.
